CASE STUDY

How a Salesforce development agency owned their brand story and established their authority

We helped Modelit get clear about their values, their customers, and how to talk about their offerings so they could market their expertise and increase incoming leads

It would have taken us years to develop something like this. Now, we have a visual we can share with our team, and tell them, ‘This is why we’re here.’ Our team now knows who our customers are. They understand better.

What we accomplished together

  • Extracted Modelit’s values and the WHY behind their business

  • Worked through my signature Brand Story Sprint workshop to understand exactly how the Modelit story unfolds, who their customers are, and how Modelit provides value

  • Prioritized the most important messages so Modelit knows exactly how to communicate with their audience

The client: Modelit Software, Salesforce development agency, Montevideo, Uruguay

Modelit provides Salesforce customizations, apps, and integrations so their clients can get the maximum return on their Salesforce investment. They create Salesforce solutions that directly address the needs and pain points of growing businesses.

Communicating your value is difficult when you work in a highly technical niche

Angelica, Danny, and Diego, the co-founders of Modelit Software, used to meet every week to exchange ideas about what would drive Modelit forward. They had been talking about their communication strategy for years. They were making decent (albeit slow) progress, and they knew it had to be possible to make progress more quickly towards their marketing goals.

Existing clients already knew how trustworthy and reliable Modelit's Salesforce services were. But since their marketing strategy relied almost entirely on referrals, they felt like a "best kept secret.” They wanted to express their value in a way that potential clients could understand, too. With ambitious goals for company growth in the near future, they knew solid messaging would be key to attracting new leads.

The Modelit leadership team knew they needed to work on their website, social media, and overall strategy to convey expertise to potential clients in a clear, consistent way. They wanted to do it in a way that felt authentic to them.

We got clear on their values, their WHY, and their brand story

Modelit was invested in expanding their reach. They had previously hired a management consultant to help with overall strategy, but they quickly realized that they needed a branding and communication expert who really understood their niche. They hired Purple Bunny, a design and innovation studio based in Buenos Aires, and I jumped in to lead the initial workshop to define their brand story.

We started with their values and their company’s WHY.

  • Modelit understood how frustrating it was for their clients to have invested in Salesforce, and to be unable to fully utilize it.

  • They cared about their clients’ success.

  • Their team had the technical expertise to lend a hand.

We used these values to craft a brand story that would help potential customers understand exactly what Modelit could help them with.

“It was very interesting to learn more about our values and who our customers are. Everything else comes after that. So I think it’s an essential part of the process.”

THE RESULT

Stepping into a position of authority with a clear brand story

Investing in the brand story workshop with me and Purple Bunny helped Modelit get clear on who their customers were, their values as a company, and what they offer.

They left our work together with tangible deliverables to take back to their team:

  • A brand messaging guide that external writers (or anyone at Modelit) can use to create better, on-brand content, consistently

  • A one pager that communicates their brand story from beginning to end

Most importantly, they left with clarity about the value they bring to their customers. Diego commented that they’ve even been able to use their brand story one-pager as a tool when onboarding new hires so they can understand the company’s WHY from day one: “Before working with Annie and Purple Bunny, we didn't have much information to share with new hires to explain the work we do. And now we have a visual guide to help new hires understand our work, who our customers are, and how we help companies.”

Getting clear about their brand story set Modelit up so they could continue to serve clients with empathy, commitment, and expertise, but also so they could start to build out their marketing plans on a solid foundation.

This process wasn’t just about the Modelit leadership team understanding their brand story. It was about the time and energy freed up for them to imagine what comes next. They look forward to using their newly-defined brand voice consistently across their website and social media channels, finding clients who are a perfect fit for their Salesforce optimization skills, and settling into their position as the trustworthy, empathetic Salesforce expert across all communication platforms.

The brand story is the foundation. That’s the input for what’s coming next.
